HCC Kinship Care Program
The Kinship program provides a range of services for families in which children are cared for by relatives when their parents do not live in the home. Services are coordinated with the Nassau County Department of Social Services, Department of Senior Citizen Affairs, Youth Board, and community-based organizations. This program is funded by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services.
Program Services Include:
- Information for kinship care families about the resources and services available to them and access to services that families need and are eligible for, including financial advocacy, TANF and Medicaid benefits, legal assistance, counseling, support groups, child care and after-school care, workshops, parenting education
- Support for families in establishing a nurturing environment for the children
- Appropriate services to help children in kinship care adapt successfully in their peer, family, and school relationships
