Hispanic Counseling Center Receives Grant From State Senator Kemp Hannon

Hempstead, NY— June 2008- Hispanic Counseling Center (HCC), Long Island’s premier specialty agency providing comprehensive professional services for Latino families, has received a $20,000 grant secured by State Senator Kemp Hannon in support the agency’s School Age Child Care program (SACC) and the Teen Drop-in Center. The funds will allow the continuation of these two vital programs for children and youth whose parents cannot provide assistance with homework, giving these children and adolescents the opportunity to receive homework help and tutoring to help them improve their grades and performance in school, as well as socialization, recreation, and enrichment activities. The grant will also allow for continuation of the Teen Drop-in Center, which provides youth ages 13-18 with a safe, supervised haven for recreation and learning during the critical after-school and early evening hours, to provide an antidote to, and prevention program for, gang involvement and anti-social behaviors by at-risk teens.

Hispanic Counseling Center is a multi-service agency headquartered in Hempstead, Nassau County, NY, with a satellite office in Bay Shore, Suffolk County NY, providing fully bilingual treatment and prevention and support services to more than 1,200 clients per month for chemical dependency, mental health, and many youth and family services.
