Hispanic Counseling Center Receives Grant from Manhasset Community Fund-GreenTree Foundation

Hempstead, NY— July 2008- Hispanic Counseling Center (HCC), Long Island’s premier specialty agency providing comprehensive professional services for Latino families, has received an $8,000 grant from the Manhasset Community Fund-GreenTree Foundation to support The Parent Education Training (PET) initiative for the period of 2008-2009. Funds received will allow parents to participate in parenting skills workshops that educate and empower them to become their child’s principal advocate, and to provide the proper support to ensure their child’s academic success.

This vital program educates parents, the majority of which are low-income Spanish speaking immigrants and a fair number of whom live in the Town of North Hempstead, about the US education system, their role in their child’s education, and parenting skills.

Hispanic Counseling Center is a multi-service agency headquartered in Hempstead, Nassau County, NY, with a satellite office in Bay Shore, Suffolk County NY, providing fully bilingual treatment and prevention and support services to more than 1,200 clients per month for chemical dependency, mental health, and many youth and family services. It is the only agency in Nassau County licensed by the State of New York to provide these services in an entirely bilingual, bicultural setting and in an environment of hope and encouragement for people working toward a constructive, self-sustaining way of life.
