Family Peer Support and Respite Services (FPSS)
Program Overview
The primary objective of the Children and Family Peer Support Services Program is to reduce family stress, decrease the risk of child abuse, and provide respite services for families raising a child ages 6 through 21 with identified challenges. Eligible children exhibit deficit functioning in various areas. The Respite Program, a part of FPSS, served fifty-five children/adolescents and 30 families in Nassau County in 2022, offering tutoring, socialization, and recreational activities.

The Reason
Addressing the unique challenges faced by families raising children with deficits in self-care, educational achievement, family interactions, and more. The program aims to reduce family stress, hospitalization, and child abuse risk.
The Solution
Through Child and Family Treatment Support Services and Respite Services, the program collaborates with OMH Long Island Field office. On-site group activities, individual respite services, and educational support contribute to improving academics and socialization skills.
