State Opioid Response (SOR) IV Program
Program Overview
The SOR IV prevention team aims their efforts to provide Evidence Based Programs that educate youth and young adults about the risks of substance use and equip them with valuable skills to navigate many aspects of life and build resilience.
In research studies, the Evidence Based programs offered by SOR IV have proven to have a positive effect in reducing the use of drugs in youth and delaying substance use. Parents also benefit from our programs by learning how to support their children and youth in the transition to adulthood and promoting a healthy environment for them to thrive.

The Reason
In 2017, The US Department of Human Health Services declared a public health emergency due to the opioid crisis. Despite continuous federal and states efforts to bring prevention programs to the communities, minorities continue to be the most affected by this epidemic.
The Solution
The SOR III program brings evidence based programs to at-risk-youth and their families in order to increase awareness of the opioid and substance abuse problem and to provide children and families with tools and strategies to avoid using drugs as a coping mechanism to deal with anxiety, poverty, or other trauma.
The Implementation
The evidence based programs offered by SOR III can be implemented in multiple settings, including schools, shelters, and other mental health agencies. Services can be provided in person or via telehealth.

Testimonial
“The Hispanic Counseling Center has been such an incredible support system for my residents here at FCA’s runaway and homeless youth programs. Alejandra and Andrea always reach out to see if any residents need support and it is so greatly appreciated. A number of residents have participated in Skills for Psychological Recovery and Psychological First Aid and it has helped them gain the tools they need to cope with difficult emotions. We also have a resident who has enrolled in therapy and psychiatry at HCC and she enjoys having the support from professionals who understand her language and her cultural background. The residents speak so highly of the team at HCC and they are always looking forward to meetings. ‘Thank you’ simply isn’t enough to express how appreciated you guys are. You are all amazing!”
